  • Counselling Intensive In-Person

A one-to-one intensive with Dr. Jem Tosh (they/she), a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society, a Full Member of the Canadian Psychological Association, and a Registered Clinical Counsellor in British Columbia, Canada. Jem is a Doctor of Psychology, a therapist, an educator, consultant, and an award-winning researcher and author. Jem provides therapies that she has personally encountered during her own healing journey. They combine this knowledge from direct lived experience with an extensive career in research and years of working in a variety of clinical settings, to provide a deep and comprehensive understanding of violence, abuse, s*xual abuse, trauma, and healing. Jem uses a non-pathologising, anti-oppressive, and affirming approach that is trauma-centred. She analyses trauma responses as functional behaviours developed for survival, and works with clients to adapt or reduce responses that have become difficult or harmful over time. Intensives allow for clients to make significant progress in trauma processing. Rather than space processing sessions hourly over 4 weeks, with additional time spent checking-in, clients can choose to condense that reprocessing into a single 4-hour session. Good for those who want to see faster results regarding trauma processing and who can manage spending a significant amount of time focusing on their trauma. _________________________________________________________________________________________ CANCELLATION POLICY: For appointments cancelled with less than 48 hours notice, a one time fee of $150CAD is charged to reimburse the labour and/or materials of preparing for the appointment, room rental, and lost income.  NO SHOW POLICY: If you do not turn up to appointments you may be required to confirm your attendance the day of your appointment. • Peer Consultation & Social Justice

Monthly meetings to discuss our clinical work with an anti-oppressive and social justice framework. Includes a range of therapeutic approaches, such as EMDR, OEI, and somatic therapies. This group is run by a critical psychologist and anti-oppressive therapist. We use a non-pathologising approach that critically examines the role of power and oppression in psychology, therapy, trauma, and healing. - Inclusion & Accessibility We welcome neurodivergent communication, such as tics, stuttering, swearing, interrupting, info-dumping etc. We do not use the Zoom raise hand feature. You do not need to make eye-contact or look at your screen. Feel free to stim. You are welcome to use non-verbal communication, such as the chat function, if that is more comfortable for you. Live close-captioning is available. You do not have to participate or contribute if you don't want to. Our groups are limited to a maximum of 5 participants to allow for a supportive and non-intimidating space. We welcome the socially anxious. - Soft Start and End Times You can arrive up to 15 minutes after the start time without missing core content. You can leave at any time and for any reason. - Privacy and Confidentiality Our sessions are not recorded or shared afterwards, so you can feel more comfortable about asking questions and being on camera (if you want to). These groups are confidential, please maintain your clients' confidentiality if discussing your work and the confidentiality of other members of the group. - Safe(r) Space We do not tolerate hate speech or aggressive behaviour (e.g. racism, xenophobia, transphobia, homophobia, biphobia, sexism, ableism, and classism). We are happy to answer questions and help those who are working on unlearning harmful 'norms'. Mistakes are fine, hate is not. Please check our Code of Conduct before attending (it is under 'Home' on our main menu at the top of this page). - Triggers As a trauma-centred organisation run by a survivor of violence and abuse, we also recognise the balance between talking about potentially upsetting or triggering topics and preventing upset and distress. Please note that this is not the same as avoiding difficult conversations because they are uncomfortable. Some of our members have lived experiences of the kinds of oppression we discuss and it's important for these groups to be educational and supportive, not retraumatising.

  • Conference Day Two Only

Join us online in July 2024 for the first ever Psygentra Conference! We will be adopting unconference principles, such as flexibility and informality, open discussions, and a non-hierarchical approach to presentations (e.g. no keynotes). Like all Psygentra events, we are foregrounding a small-group structure in a micro-conference format. So, if you are looking for a non-intimidating, supportive, and encouraging space to share your work, network, and make friends, where you can also get quality feedback on theory, method, and practice - this is the micro unconference for you. We will also be combining three aspects that are central to Psygentra's work - criticality, creativity, and community. We are accepting papers, posters, poetry, commentaries, and more on critical analyses, creative methodologies and creative writing, and community perspectives like activist interventions and campaigns, to community-building. FOR PRESENTERS For submissions we require some information about (1) WHAT you would like to contribute to the event (e.g. a summary of your project, this can be a formal abstract if that is more comfortable for you, but it can also be a summary description), (2) HOW you would like to contribute (e.g. a formal presentation, an open discussion or panel, a poster, a creative reading, or something else entirely, and whether you want to present live or not), and (3) for HOW LONG (e.g. a 10 minute presentation, a 45 minute panel, a 20 minute reading etc.). We can't guarantee that we will be able to meet your requirements, but we will try as best we can to accommodate your chosen presenting style. Please note that there are limited presenting spots. All submissions will be reviewed by the Conference Organising Team. There will be three certificates awarded for each category (critical, creative, and community) and abstracts/full submissions will be invited for publication in the Journal of Psychology, Gender, and Trauma. FOR ATTENDEES Each presentation will have ample time for small group discussion, so you will have the opportunity to participate if you want to. You can also observe the discussion and learn from the group as a whole. Information will be available in a range of formats (presentations, captions, transcripts, posters etc.). Please contact the conference organisers if you have specific accessibility needs. To create a safe(r) space for critical discussion and disclosure, the conference will not be recorded.
